Why a patch hat for St Patrick's Day instead of a printed green hat?

Because a printed holiday hat is finished on March 18. It says one thing, in one color, and it goes in a drawer with the beads. The Canvas holds the holiday on a patch instead of in the fabric. After the parade or the pub crawl, the patch lifts off and what is left is a black, khaki, or pink trucker hat that gets worn to the hardware store.

Is the patch surface hook and loop, and how does a patch hold?

In principle, yes. The hook side is on the back of every patch. The loop side is the hat itself. But the loop is not an off-the-shelf panel sewn onto the front. It is Patchistry Fiber, our own loop weave, and it is the fabric of the front panel and the brim rather than a strip applied to them.

A patch holds because the hook on its back meets that weave across the full footprint of the patch. Press it flat and it holds. Lift it at an edge and it comes away, ready to press somewhere else.
