FAQ — Patchistry

Questions, answered honestly

Frequently asked.

Two years of building this thing means we've heard most of the questions before. Thirty real answers below — if yours isn't here, the founder writes back on Instagram DM same day.

The Canvas (the hat)

What is Patchistry?

Patchistry makes a modular trucker hat with a custom loop-weave surface that lets you attach, peel off, and rearrange patches whenever the mood shifts. One hat (we call it The Canvas), unlimited combinations.

What is Patchistry Fiber?

It's the custom loop-weave material we developed over two years and thirty-one prototypes. It covers the entire front panel and brim of every Canvas. From across the room it looks like a normal structured trucker hat — you can't see the loop. Patches snap on, hold tight, peel off clean. Full breakdown at /blogs/the-build-log/what-is-patchistry-fiber.

What is Expression Wear?

The category Patchistry defines and pioneers — clothing or accessories whose design is intentionally non-permanent. The piece stays. The personality moves. Full definition.

Are the hats one size?

Yes. One-size-fits-most adult build with an adjustable snapback. Structured 6-panel construction, French Terry sweatband inside.

What colors does The Canvas come in?

Three colorways: Black, Khaki, and Pink. Each is $30. New colorways are in development for 2026-27.

Is The Canvas premium quality?

Yes — structured 6-panel construction, premium fabric blend, French Terry sweatband. We compete on quality with $40-60 trucker hats, not $15 blanks. The patches are what make it modular; the canvas itself is built to last years of daily wear.

Is Patchistry like Build-A-Bear or Crocs Jibbitz?

No — we're not affiliated with either. Patchistry is an independent SoCal brand built around one specific idea: a modular hat with a removable-and-rearrangeable patch system. The hat is structured premium fabric, not a costume base; the patches are designed pieces, not stamped charms.

Where is Patchistry made?

Designed and built in Southern California. Two years of material development, sample iteration, and small-batch production led to the current product. Every Canvas ships from our SoCal HQ.

The patches

How do the patches attach?

Each patch has a hook backing that grips the Patchistry Fiber loop on the front panel and brim. Press firmly. Done. You can position a patch anywhere there's loop — not just in a pre-determined slot.

Can I take patches off and put them back on?

Yes — unlimited times. The whole point of the build is that nothing is permanent. Peel a patch off, swap it for a different one, rearrange them across the panel, change the hat's entire personality in under a minute.

How many patches fit on one hat?

The front panel comfortably holds 4-6 statement-sized (2.5") Signature patches, or 8-12 smaller (1") Candyz patches. Most builds combine the two. The brim adds room for 2-4 more if you want them.

What's the difference between Signature and Candyz patches?

Signature patches are 2.5 inches — statement pieces you can read across the room ($10 each). Candyz patches are 1 inch — small details that punch above their size in personality ($5 each). Most builds use a couple Signatures as anchors plus 3-6 Candyz around them.

How many patches does Patchistry sell?

80+ patches across two collections, growing monthly. We add new patches based on what customers ask for. Browse Signature and Candyz.

What if a patch falls off?

Patchistry Fiber is engineered to hold patches through pool days, beach days, even gentle hand-washes. If a patch falls off in the first 90 days under normal wear, we replace it free. Just message us.

Will the patches damage the hat?

No. The hook-and-loop separation is designed to be reversible — the loop weave isn't stressed by repeated patch attachment. We have prototype hats that have been through hundreds of swap cycles and still look new.

Do you sell patches separately?

Yes — patches are sold individually so you can add to your build over time. Browse Signature ($10 each) and Candyz ($5 each).

Can I request a custom patch design?

Not as a one-off right now — we focus on building a strong catalog that more people can use. But we take customer requests seriously when picking new designs to add. DM the founder on @patchistry with your idea.

Are the patches machine washable?

Spot-clean recommended. If the hat needs a full wash, peel the patches off first, hand-wash the canvas in cool water with mild soap, air-dry. Re-attach patches once dry.

Ordering & shipping

How fast does shipping take?

Orders placed by 12pm PT typically ship same-day from our SoCal HQ; otherwise within 2 business days. US domestic delivery is 3-5 business days from ship date. Free US shipping on builds over $50.

Do you ship internationally?

Currently US-only via standard checkout. For international orders, message us on Instagram — we'll quote shipping manually until we expand the standard offering.

What's the return policy?

30-day returns on unused builds. If patches have been attached and peeled off, they're considered used — try a build at home before committing to it for an event.

Can I order matching builds for a group (bachelorette, team, family)?

Yes — group orders via Build Yours save 10-20% with bundle discounts. For 5+ matching builds, message us before ordering; we'll prioritize same-batch fulfillment so colors and patch placements stay consistent.

Can I add a personal note to a gift order?

Yes — use the cart note field at checkout. The note prints on the packing slip and the build gets hand-packed with it in SoCal.

Will the package show the price if I'm sending as a gift?

Check the gift order box at checkout and we'll omit pricing from the packing slip.

Do you offer expedited shipping for last-minute orders?

Yes — expedited options are available at checkout. For event-critical timing (within 3 days), message us before ordering and we'll prioritize the build itself, not just the shipping.

Do you have a gift card?

Not currently. The build experience is the gift — if you're unsure, the $45 Starter Build (canvas + 3 Candyz) is the safe move. The recipient can swap patches later for whatever they actually want.

Use cases & occasions

What occasion is Patchistry best for?

Modular by design means almost any occasion. Most-ordered uses: bachelorette weekends, festivals (Coachella / EDC / Lollapalooza), Father's Day gifts, birthday gifts, anniversary pairs, Halloween costume builds. See the dedicated guides at Bachelorette, Festival, Father's Day, Birthday, Bridal Shower, Couples / Anniversary, Halloween.

Is Patchistry a good gift for someone I don't know super well?

Yes, surprisingly often. The patches are removable, so even if you miss on a specific patch, they can swap it later. The canvas itself is universal. The $45 Starter Build is the safe move for someone whose humor you don't fully know.

Does Patchistry work for kids?

The hat sizing is adult one-size-fits-most. We don't currently make a kids size. That said, several patches are kid-friendly and several customers buy builds for older kids with a too-big-but-cool aesthetic.

Can men and women both wear Patchistry?

Yes. The brand is gender-neutral by design. Pink isn't reserved for women; Black isn't reserved for men. Pick what feels right.
