Why give a line cook a patch hat instead of a printed kitchen hat?

Because every hat a line cook already owns was printed by somebody else. The restaurant hat, the purveyor hat, the one from the taco truck that closed. Each says the same thing until the sweatband gives out. The Canvas takes a patch up front and a second on the brim, and both peel off by hand. The hat stays when the kitchen changes.

A gift like this is two guesses: the cook's humor, and which kitchen they are in next year. On a patch hat a wrong guess costs $10 and reverses in a second. On a printed hat the wrong guess is the hat.

What patches suit a chef or a line cook?

Three live patches fit a kitchen without a stretch: Chef, Espresso Yourself, and the Chili mini. There is no knife, cleaver, or flat-top patch yet, so the cards below are what exists.

For the rest of the brim, the Taco, Pizza, and Coffee Candyz minis are $5 each at 1 inch. Taco is a hard shell, Pizza is a pepperoni slice, and Coffee is a steaming yellow mug. Three minis fit across the brim under a Signature on the front panel. Any patch presses onto any hat, so the best sellers page is open to a kitchen build too.

Does it have to stay on a kitchen theme?

No. The hat gives you two surfaces, the front panel and the brim, and nothing pressed onto either one is permanent. The Chef patch that works the shift can come off for the day off while a Taco mini stays on the brim. A cook who ends the night with a shift beer can borrow from the brewery and craft beer page, and the front-of-house friend gets the bartender page, so both halves of the restaurant build from the same Canvas.

What does it cost to build a kitchen crew hat?

A kitchen hat starts at $40: the Canvas is $30 on its own, with no patch, and one Signature patch is $10. Put Espresso Yourself on the brim and it is $50. Swap that for the Chili and Taco minis and it is $50 before the volume meter, which starts taking 10% off at three patches. Three Signature patches on one Canvas come to $60 before the meter.

Is the front of the hat hook and loop, and what stops a patch from coming off on the line?

Yes. The hook sits on the back of the patch. The loop side is Patchistry Fiber, our own weave, not a generic loop panel. It covers the whole front panel and continues across the brim, so the brim is a second surface, not trim.

Press the patch down and the hook grabs the weave across its whole back, which holds it through a shift. Lift a corner and it comes away clean. What do people ask before ordering for a line cook?

How fast does it ship?

Orders leave in 1 to 3 business days and US shipping costs nothing. If it is for a birthday or somebody's last shift, order a week out so the carrier has room.

Can a cook swap patches between shifts?

Yes. Lift one corner, pull the patch away, and press the next one down on the weave. No iron, glue, or stitching, and the hat is left as it was.

Is there a knife or cleaver patch?

Not yet. Chef is the one patch that names the job, and food minis like Chili, Taco, Pizza, and Coffee handle the rest.

How many patches fit on a kitchen hat?

Two is the usual answer, a Signature on the front panel and a second on the brim. The 1 inch Candyz minis are small enough that three fit along the brim beside a Signature.

Are the kitchen patches embroidered?

No. Every patch is UV printed rather than stitched: the Chef cow is printed artwork at 2.5 inches and the minis are printed at 1 inch.

What if the cook does not like it?

Returns run 30 days on unused builds, so have them look before pressing anything on; once a patch is pressed and peeled, the build counts as used. The FAQ page has the policy in full.
